Zverev powers into Swiss Indoors semis

German ace Alexander Zverev has outplayed Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut to claim a straight sets 7-5 6-3 victory for a place in the semi-finals of the Swiss Indoors.

It was Zverev’s 52nd win of the season on Friday and a ninth semi-final spot for the world No.5, who has already qualified for the season-ending ATP Finals in London next month.

Zverev played aggressively from the very first ball as he rallied to break early for a 2-0 cushion.

But after Bautista Agut broke back to level at 3-3, Zverev missed 10 break points before finally converting an 11th opportunity for a 6-5 lead.

He then served out the first set following a captivating 40-stroke rally.

Bautista Agut, ranked 26th in the world, took advantage of a shaky start from the 21-year-old German’s as a he surged 3-0 in front in the second set.

However, Zverev regained his confident composure to break three times in a row and eventually seal his final four place in one hour and 44 minutes.

Zverev will play Romanian Marius Copil in Saturday’s penultimate round after the 28-year-old qualifier, ranked at 93, beat American Taylor Fritz 7-6 (8-6) 7-5 for a place in the first ATP semi-final of his 10-year career.
