Wozniacki into Montreal tennis semis

Seventh-seeded Caroline Wozniacki ended Aleksandra Wozniak’s popular run in the Rogers Cup in Montreal on Saturday when she beat the Canadian 6-4 6-4 in the quarter-finals.

Wozniak, from the Montreal suburb of Blainville, was the first Canadian since Patricia Hy-Boulais in 1992 to reach the quarter-finals in the event.

In the semi-finals, Wozniacki will face fifth-seeded Petra Kvitova, who scored a 6-3 6-2 win over Tamira Paszek.

In the other quarter-finals, 10th-seeded Li Na beat second-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2 6-1 and 16th-seeded Lucie Safarova toppled Roberta Vinci 6-2 6-2.

Players faced an extended day due to the inclement weather throughout the week and were forced to complete third-round matches before playing their quarter-finals.

Wozniak needed only a few minutes to wrap up her clash against American Christina McHale 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.

Radwanska beat Chanelle Scheepers 6-2 6-4 and Li downed Sara Errani 6-4 6-2.

Vinci beat Angelique Kerber 6-2 7-6 (9-7) to advance while Paszek beat Carla Suarez Navarro 6-3 6-0.
