Wozniacki beats Sevastova in China Open

Caroline Wozniacki has won her second China Open title after she defeated Anastasija Sevastova in a commanding 6-3 6-3 victory to maintain her strong form ahead of the WTA Finals in Singapore.

Having secured her 30th title at this tournament, the world number two from Denmark now looks among the hot favourites to also defend her WTA Finals title.

Wozniacki broke Sevastova twice in her first three service games, but lost serve in the seventh game and needed to save three break points to prevent the Latvian levelling at 4-4.

But it was ultimately Sevastova’s inconsistency of 35 errors, 22 of which came in the crucial second set, that cost her the chance to win what would have been the biggest title of her career.
