Withdrawal puts Kerber in Eastbourne final

Defending Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber has reached the Eastbourne decider, with semi-final opponent Ons Jabeur being forced to withdraw with an ankle injury.

Jabeur rolled her right ankle during her last-eight match against Frenchwoman Alize Cornet and the Tunisian couldn’t recover in time for Friday’s second career semi-final.

Chasing her first title since she beating Serena Williams in last year’s Wimbledon final, Kerber will play second-seeded Karolina Pliskova or third-seeded Kiki Bertens.

It will be the third time Kerber has played in the Eastbourne final after losing in 2012 and 2014.
