Venus Williams into WTA Indian Wells semis

Venus Williams continued her fine form to reach the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

The 37-year-old raced past Carla Suarez Navarro, beating the Spaniard 6-3 6-2, to earn her spot in the final four for the first time since 2001.

She will next face Russia’s Daria Kasatkina, who defeated No.10 seed Angelique Kerber 6-0 6-2 in just 57 minutes.

Kasatkina hasn’t dropped a set in four matches at Indian Wells, knocking out US Open champion Sloane Stephens and world No.2 Caroline Wozniacki.

Kerber never managed a break point against Kasatkina’s serve.

The Russian connected on 82 per cent of her first serves, winning 22 of 32 first-serve points.

Besides Stephens and Australian Open winner Wozniacki, Kasatkina has beaten the other current Grand Slam titleholders in the past year: French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko and Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza.
