There are quite a few top players not playing at this year’s US Open including our very own Ash Barty while the men’s event will be without Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Nick Kyrgios and Stan Wawrinka.
The men’s event will still be very interesting and Novak Djokovic (1.80) is the outright favourite.
It will be interesting to see how the other players go.
For someone like Dominic Thiem (10.00), it will be interesting to see how he goes after such a long lay-off.
On paper it will be the likes of Novak, Thiem and Alexander Zverez (21.00) who will come through the draw and play in the semi-finals and final.
Without Roger and Nadal, there’s an opportunity and chance for other players.
The Aussies
John Millman (501.00) has been playing very decently and he’s always a dangerous player and he always tries hard.
For Alex Di Minaur (81.00) (pictured above), a lot will depend on him to do well.
It will depend on how much he has played and what sort of shape he’s in.
Alex has improved a lot, he’s had a fair number of matches in the Davis Cup and ATP Cup.
There’s no reason why he can’t be one of the top contenders, he’s got a good chance.
He’d be one of the outsiders.
The Verdict
Novak Djokovic has been on of the top players for many years and he’s the man to beat for sure.
But you never know how some of the other players will come up, especially playing in front of no other people.
It’s going to affect some players who have had a long lay-off.
But you still have to put your money on Novak Djokovic.
