Tsonga withdraws from US Open

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France has pulled out of the US Open with a knee injury.

The world No.8 hasn’t played since June 26 when he was forced to drop out of his second-round match at Wimbledon.

He says his left knee needs more time to recover and he hopes to resume playing next month.

The 28-year-old Tsonga already missed the Rogers Cup in Montreal earlier this month due to the injury.

The US Open, the year’s final grand slam tournament, starts on August 26.
