Tsonga powers on at Vienna Open

Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has saved a match point on his way to a 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (9-7) 6-1 win over Bosnian Damir Dzumhur at the Vienna Open.

Compatriot Richard Gasquet was also a surprise 4-6 7-5 6-1 winner over local second seed Dominic Thiem in Thursday’s games at the indoor Wiener Stadthalle.

Argentine Diego Schwartzman beat fourth seed Pablo Carreno Busta 5-7 6-1 6-1 while Lucas Pouille of France and Britain’s world No.63 Kyle Edmund also made it through to the quarter-finals.

Tsonga will now face Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the next round as he pushes on with his quest to make it to London’s ATP showpiece.
