Top seed Roberta Vinci was ousted from the WTA’s Monterrey Open on Wednesday, with Russian Nina Bratchikova upsetting the Italian 7-5 7-5 to reach the quarter-finals.
Bratchikova needed only 81 minutes to advance to the last-eight of the $US220,000 ($A207,468) tournament where she will face either Hungarian sixth seed Greta Arn or Croatian qualifier Maria Abramovic.
Italian second seed Sara Errani downed France’s Alize Cornet 6-2 6-3 and Romanian Alexandra Cadantu eliminated Spain’s Silvia Soler-Espinosa 7-6 (8-6) 6-3 in other second-round matches.
Cadantu will next face Spanish eighth seed Lourdes Dominguez Lino, who defeated Russian Valeria Savinykh 6-4 6-2.
