Bernard Tomic set up a quarter-final showdown with Jo Wilfried-Tsonga by defeating Indian Somdev Devvarman at the ATP Marseille Open on Wednesday.
The Australian world No.46 was largely untroubled against his 354th ranked opponent, prevailing 6-3 7-5 in 73 minutes.
It will be 20-year-old’s Tomic’s second quarter-final appearance of the season after he won his maiden ATP title in Sydney in January.
Third seed and former champion Tsonga hit nine aces and broke serve twice as he defeated Russia’s Nikolay Davydenko 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 in their second-round match.
The Frenchman lifted the Marseille trophy in 2009.
Top seed Tomas Berdych was tested before battling past world No.118 Ernests Gulbis 6-4 6-7 (10-12) 6-4 in two hours and 12 minutes.
The Czech withstood 19 aces from Gulbis, breaking the Latvian three times to avenge the defeat he suffered in the Wimbledon first round last year and advance to the quarter-finals.
