Tomic knocked out of ATP Budapest event

Australian Bernard Tomic has been beaten in the first round of the Budapest Open, going down 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 to Slovenian Aljaz Bedene.

Tomic was ousted in 99 minutes by Bedene, the 2017 event runner-up, despite taking an early break and serving for the first set.

The world No.77 won just 59 per cent of first-serve points on the red clay where he typically struggles.

Tomic’s compatriot John Millman, a finalist at the 2018 Budapest Open, will face Serb Miomir Kecmanovic in his first-round clash on Tuesday.
