Tennis champions rally for Florent

The chance to play a doubles match with grand slam winners Pat Rafter and Goran Ivanisevic and Australian Open finals tickets are part of a unique tennis package being auctioned to help cancer-stricken Australian former player Andrew Florent.

An online auction is being held to support Florent after his recent diagnosis.

As well as two tickets to the men’s and women’s finals and the chance to take the court with Rafter and Ivanisevic, the package also includes a tennis lesson form American former world No.1 Jim Courier.

Accommodation, invitations to a legends lunch featuring Rod Laver and a photo with the men’s winner are also part of the prize.

The bidding had topped $7,000 by 6pm (AEDT) Sunday with the online auction to run until just after 5pm on Thursday.

“This is terrible news, but what has heartened ‘Florey’ and his family has been the outpouring of support from the entire tennis fraternity,” long-time friend Paul Kilderry said on Sunday.

“This auction is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with the added bonus that the winner is helping out a former Australian tennis player in a time of great need.”
