Elina Svitolina advanced to the Connecticut Open semi-finals with an easy 6-3 6-1 victory over Olympics doubles champion Elena Vesnina.
Svitolina, the 21-year-old Ukrainian player who upset Serena Williams in Rio, outran her Russian opponent and took advantage of 33 unforced errors. Svitolina will face Johanna Larsson.
Larsson continued her improbable run in New Haven, upsetting second-seeded Roberta Vinci of Italy 7-6 (9-7) 6-1.
The 28-year-old Swede lost in qualifying, but got into the main draw when Svetlana Kuznetsova withdrew because of a shoulder injury.
Vinci said she was bothered by an injury to a tendon in her left foot that has been giving her problems since the Olympics.
