Top seed Peng Shuai coasted into the second round of the WTA event in Zhengzhou with a comfortable 6-1 6-1 win against Japan’s Shuko Aoyama on Monday.

All eight first-round matches on the opening day were completed in straight sets, with second seed Wang Qiang beating Hiroko Kuwata 6-1 6-1 and third seed Duan Ying-ying ousting Thai qualifier Peangtarn Plipuech by the same score.

Japan’s fourth seed Nao Hibino beat compatriot Akiko Omae 6-1 6-2 and eighth seed Liu Fangzhou won 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 against Thailand’s Varatchaya Wongteanchai.

Australian world No.205 Arina Rodionova will play China’s Liu Chang in the first round on Tuesday.

Rodionova has already enjoyed success over Liu in Zhengzhou, having won her first-round doubles match against her after a match tie-breaker.

Rodionova and Valeria Savinykh beat Liu and Zheng Saisai 7-6 (7-3) 5-7 10-7.
