Former champion Samantha Stosur has comfortably reached the second round of the US Open in New York.
Australia’s 22nd seed defeated Hungarian Timea Babos 6-3 6-4 to set up a meeting on Thursday with Russian Evgeniya Rodina.
Stosur’s victory ended a run of three straight defeats and avenged her loss to Babos in her last outing in Cincinnati two weeks ago.
