SNAPSHOT FROM DAY FOUR AT WIMBLEDON

PLAYER OF THE DAY: Alex De Minaur – the Australian teenage ace continued his breakout tournament with a 6-2 6-7 (8-10) 7-5 6-3 win over Pierre-Hugues Herbert to set up a big-stage third-round clash with world No.1 Rafael Nadal.

STAT OF THE DAY: Five Australians – de Minaur, Nick Kyrgios, Matt Ebden, Ashleigh Barty and Daria Gavrilova – are through to the last 32 for only the second time in 20 years.

UPSET ALERT: Garbine Muguruza’s Wimbledon title defence was hijacked by Alison van Uytvanck as the little-known Belgian world No.47 dumped the Spaniard from the tournament with a 5-7 6-2 6-1 second-round shocker.

MAGIC MOMENT: Guido Pella’s shock 3-6 1-6 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 comeback win over third seed Marin Cilic was all FaceTimed from courtside by a mystery “Maria” for the Argentine’s sister back in Barcelona.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “I don’t feel that excited. Of course I am happy (but) I am getting used to these situations. I know not to get too happy, too excited or too sad.” – Ebden audaciously maintaining he can contend for the trophy after his four-set win over Stephane Robert.

TOURNAMENT SUMMARY: Roger Federer, Nadal and Novak Djokovic have so far avoided the first-week exodus of seeds, to remain on course to keep the trophy in the hands of one of the big four. The injured and absent Andy Murray is the only other player in the past 15 years to win tennis’s greatest prize. While Muguruza is out, former finalist Angelique Kerber and 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko are safely through to the third round.
