Bernard Tomic’s sister Sara and Sydneysider Alex De Minaur headlined the early local winners in the junior Australian Open draw.
Tomic defeated Chinese sixth seed Wushuang Zheng 7-5 7-5 in one hour and 43 minutes on Saturday.
De Minaur, the top-ranked local hope who is seeded sixth, accounted for Italian Corrado Summaria 6-2 6-3 at Melbourne Park.
De Minaur is looking to follow in the footsteps of previous Australian Open junior title winners Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic.
Moerani Bouzige, Renee McBryde, Aiava Destanee, Baijing Lin and Blake Ellis were the other local juniors to bank a first-round win.
