Rosol outlasts Lu in Winston-Salem

Czech veteran Lukas Rosol reached the final of the ATP Winston-Salem tournament by defeating Taiwan’s Lu Yen-Hsun 7-5 4-6 6-4 on Friday at the US Open warm-up event.

Rosol, who advanced on Thursday by walkover when US top seed John Isner withdrew with an ankle injury, needed two hours and three minutes to oust Lu and give himself a chance at a second career ATP title.

Rosol, 29, advanced to a Saturday championship match against the winner of a later semi-final between Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz and American Sam Querrey in North Carolina.

Rosol, ranked 33rd, won his first career ATP crown last year at Bucharest in his first ATP final.

He lost to Grigor Dimitrov in this year’s Bucharest final and also settled for a runner-up finish last month at Stuttgart.
