Raonic progresses at Wimbledon, Tsonga out

Milos Raonic, last year’s runner-up at Wimbledon, has advanced to the tournament’s second week by beating Albert Ramos-Vinolas in straight sets on Saturday.

The No.6 seeded Canadian Raonic described his 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 7-5 win over the 25th seed Ramos-Vinolas as “pretty clean.”

Raonic, who served 21 aces including one on match point, had 55 winners and just 26 unforced errors.

Sam Querrey took only four minutes to beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and reach the fourth round at Wimbledon.

The match was suspended Friday by darkness after two hours and 54 minutes with Querrey leading 6-5 in the fifth set.

Tsonga served first upon resumption of the match but Querrey broke to win 6-2 3-6 7-6 (7-5) 1-6 7-5.

Querrey reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals last year.

Czech 11th seed Tomas Berdych had a comfortable straight sets win over Spanish veteran David Ferrer 6-3 6-4 6-3 while Adrian Mannarino caused a boilover when he ousted French compatriot Gael Monfils, the No.15 seed, 7-6 (7-3) 4-6 5-7 6-3 6-2 in a match that lasted three-and-a-half hours.

Dudi Sela became the ninth man to retire from a match at this year’s tournament, stopping his third-round match against the 13th seed Grigor Dimitrov while trailing 6-1 6-1.

Sela called for a trainer after the first set and lasted just an hour.

Dimitrov, a Wimbledon semifinalist in 2014, will next face either seven-times champion Roger Federer or Mischa Zverev, who are among the players whose third-round matches are scheduled to be completed before the tournament heads to its traditional break on the middle Sunday.
