Radwanska defeats Halep at WTA Miami Open

Former champion Agnieszka Radwanska has beaten world No.1 Simona Halep in the third round of the Miami Open.

The Pole, who won in Miami in 2012, had not posted back to back victories since January before her 3-6 6-2 6-3 over the Romanian top seed.

After losing a scrappy first set the 29-year-old Radwanska roared to a 4-0 lead in the second, dropping just four points in the process, on her way to drawing level.

Halep broke early in the decider but Radwanska hit straight back and reeled off six of the last seven games to claim victory in an hour and 48 minutes.

Fifth-seeded Czech Karolina Pliskova had a tough time before battling past Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-Wei 6-4 1-6 7-6 (7-4).

Pliskova finally prevailed when she closed out the third-set tiebreak by converting her seventh match point.

Zarina Diyas fought back from a set down to overcome Carina Witthoeft 4-6 7-5 6-0.
