Radwanska aiming high with new racquet

Agnieszka Radwanska is hoping a change of racquet brings about a change of fortune as she hunts a maiden grand slam title at the Australian Open.

World No.3 Radwanska has impressed at Melbourne Park throughout her career but fallen during the second week on every occasion.

Radwanska, desperate to improve a record that includes four quarter-final losses and two semi-final defeats at Melbourne Park, recently switched frames from Babolat to Srixon.

“That was a hard decision, obviously. I have been with Babolat for so many years,” the 27-year-old said after cruising into the semi-finals of the Sydney International.

“It’s always tough to change equipment, but … I think (at) my age, this is the last call I can do something. Why not?

“I didn’t really feel like I have to (change). It’s always a choice … I have tried a couple of racquets.

“This racquet, it’s made for me. I was pretty much saying what I want and what I wanted to change and what I prefer. So, you know, I think that’s the perfect thing to have.

“It’s always nice to change something.”

The 2013 Sydney International champion faces Barbora Strycova in Thursday’s semi-final, having crushed Ying-Ying Duan 6-3 6-2 on Wednesday.

“Here is always a strong tournament, you can see a lot of top players playing,” Radwanska said.

“I have really good memories from a couple years ago of holding this trophy. I will do everything in my power to repeat that.”

Thursday’s other semi features Canadian Eugenie Bouchard and Sydney-born Brit Johanna Konta.
