There’s surely easier ways to earn $500, but that’s what a punter stands to win after placing a massive $50,000 bet on Novak Djokovic to defeat Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer in their round 2 match at the Australian Open this afternoon.
The punter took the short odds of $1.01 for a Djokovic victory with online bookmaker Sportingbet.
“It’s one of the biggest bets of the tournament so far and certainly an interesting way to make $500 but Djokovic is expected to win the match quite comfortably,” Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown said.
Djokovic is a clear-cut $1.12 favourite at Sportingbet to win the match in straight sets.
The Serbian is a $1.75 favourite at Sportingbet to be crowned 2014 Australian Open Champion.
