Play resumes at French Open

Play resumed at the French Open on Thursday after a rain delay of one hour and 40 minutes.

Before the suspension, Serb 18th seed Jelena Jankovic and China’s Zheng Jie had both made the third round.

Jankovic, a semi-finalist in 2007, 2008 and 2010 beat Spain’s Garbine Muguruza 6-3 6-0.

Zheng reached the last 32 with a 6-3 6-1 win over Melanie Oudin of the United States.

German men’s 16th seed Philipp Kohlschreiber reached the third round without hitting a ball when Taiwan opponent Lu Yen-Hsun withdrew with an ankle injury.

Australian Samantha Stosur was closing in on a second-round victory over Kristina Mladenovic when play was stopped.

She led the unseeded Frenchwoman 6-4 4-1 on Philippe Chatrier Court.

Rain had hit the schedule on Tuesday when four hours of play was lost.
