No.24 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has become the first player through to the Australian Open quarter-finals following a comprehensive 6-3 6-3 win over fellow-Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Pavlyuchenokova had won only six matches in her eight previous campaigns at Melbourne Park, but has now advanced to a last-eight clash against either No.13 seed Venus Williams or German qualifier Mona Barthel.
The eighth-seeded Kuznetsova has two major titles to her name – the 2004 US Open and the 2009 French Open.
