Matteo Berrettini has had a great fortnight resulting in his first Grand Slam Final appearance against Novak Djokovic. The Italian has been sensational all year including the grass court lead-up where he won at Queen’s Club, with his record this year now 32-6.

Djokovic will play for his third consecutive Wimbledon crown whilst looking to tie Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on 20 career Grand Slam titles.

The Serbian did not have it all on his terms in the Semi Final though – Shapovalov served for the opening set and controlled majority of the second set, the experience and mental fortitude the difference. You could even argue the Canadian played the better tennis of the two, which gives the Italian some hope for the Final.

Berrettini was clinical in the first two sets against Hubert Hurkacz setting up a four-set victory against the Pole, and the Italian has similar weapons to that of Shapovalov which troubled Djokovic – big serve, and plenty of power from the baseline.

Djokovic holds a 2-0 record over Berrettini, with their most recent encounter a month back in the Quarter Final at Roland Garros with the Serbian winning in four sets – but Berrettini’s game is more suited to the grass than the clay.

You could argue the case that Berrettini is playing the better tennis of the two this tournament, but that goes out the window when we reach the Final. Djokovic’s record at the pointy end of majors is impeccable and is simply clutch when finding a way to win – even from positions where he shouldn’t. With a first-time Grand Slam Finalist at the other end of the net, expect Djokovic’s experience to be far too strong.

The way Berrettini is serving The Wolf expects him to take at least one set in this but expect Djokovic to target the Berrettini backhand on his way to his sixth Wimbledon title.
