Nishikori kept waiting at Wimbledon

Japanese 10th seed Kei Nishikori must wait until Monday to complete his Wimbledon third-round clash with lucky loser Simon Bolelli, a match perfectly balanced at 3-3 in the final set.

The Italian twice went a set ahead in the rain-delayed match but Nishikori levelled twice.

With the evening light fading on Saturday, the third-round contest was called off at 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (4/7), 3-3.

On Friday, Wimbledon saw its latest-ever finish on the outside courts, with Marin Cilic finally defeating Tomas Berdych at 9:38pm – a full 16 minutes after sunset.

World number 12 Nishikori is looking to reach the last 16 for the first time at the All England Club.

Bolelli, the world number 132, is bidding to become the first lucky loser to make the Wimbledon fourth round since Dick Norman in 1995.

Bolelli lost to Samuel Groth of Australia in the third and final round of qualifying for Wimbledon but was one of four lucky losers handed a place in the main draw when others pulled out.
