New tennis star Jasika in Malaysian Open

Rising tennis star Omar Jasika has been awarded a wildcard for the Malaysian Open on the back of his stunning US Open juniors campaign.

The ATP 250-level event in Kuala Lumpur will be the 17-year-old’s debut outing in the main draw at a tour-level event.

Jasika hit the headlines earlier this month when he won both the boys’ singles and doubles titles at the US Open – the first time a player had pulled off the feat at Flushing Meadows in 28 years.

The Malaysian Open starts on September 20 and also features Australian young guns Bernard Tomic and Nick Kygrios.

But for his part, Jasika seems to be finding his newfound sporting celebrity a bit cumbersome.

On Tuesday he retweeted fellow tennis darling Kygrios’ complaint that the media were putting too much pressure on the young player.

“Sorta wishing that the media will leave (Jasika) alone,” Kygrios wrote.

“Just let him play tennis. Always hyping everything up. #DejaVu.”
