Nadal crushes Raonic in Montreal final

Ruthless Rafael Nadal has hammered out his third Canadian title in commanding style, crushing Milos Raonic 6-2, 6-2 in the Montreal Masters final.

Nadal, who will move back to third in the rankings, was totally untroubled against the big-serving Canadian, who will become the fist Canadian to crack the ranking top 10.

But there was no relief for the 22-year-old on court as he fell to the Spanish juggernaut, with Nadal winning his fourth Master 1000 title of the season and 25th of his career on Sunday.

The title was the eighth for Nadal in 2013 and handed him a trophy hat-trick in Canada after success in 2005 and 2008.

Raonic got a standing ovation from his hyped up local crowd, but was unable to make an impression on the formidable Nadal, who now stands 4-0 in a series that includes three victories on hardcourt.

Nadal broke twice in the opening set and started the second with another break as Raonic double-faulted. The Spanish strongman surpassed his only crisis when he saved three break points in fourth game of the second set.

Raonic had hoped to become the first Canadian to win the home title since 1958.

Nadal now owns 58 career trophies, including a dozen grand slams.

He raced to the title without the loss of a set and becomes the fourth player to win three or Canadian titles.
