Nadal could come to Sydney International

Sydney International officials are considering offering 14-time grand slam champion Rafael Nadal a wildcard into next week’s Australian Open lead-up event.

Nadal on Wednesday suffered a shock first-round loss in Qatar to 34-year-old qualifier Michael Berrer, leaving the world No.3 desperately short of match practice heading into the opening grand slam of 2015.

Nadal is on the comeback trail after undergoing surgery for appendecitis in October and a Sydney International spokesman told AAP they’d love to have the popular Spaniard back at the tournament for a second time – and first time since 2007.
