John Millman has been brought in for Australia’s Davis Cup quarter-final against Canada after Nick Kyrgios was rested.
Kyrgios, who has chalked up two singles rubber wins against Colombia’s Alejandro Gonzalez and Belgium’s Steve Darcis, will sit out the opener against Vasek Pospisil in Madrid.
The 24-year-old sat out the last six weeks of the season to be ready for the Davis Cup but Hewitt has opted to go with Millman.
The second singles rubber sees a repeat of the 2016 junior Wimbledon final with world No.15 Denis Shapovalov up against world No.18 Alex de Minaur.
Felix Auger-Aliassime has failed to recover from an ankle injury so the undermanned Canadians must rely on Pospisil and Shapovalov in the doubles against John Peers and Jordan Thompson.
Peers has been passed fit to play after pulling up with an elbow issue in Tuesday’s doubles match against Belgium.
The match was forfeited to give Australia a 2-1 win.
