Marinko Matosevic made a solid start to his Queen’s Club tennis campaign with a straight sets win over Denmark’s Frederik Nielsen.
The Australian world No.65 had to dig deep in a tight first set before securing a 7-5 6-2 win at the grass court event.
Matosevic will next face either Spanish 15th seed Pablo Andujar or Frenchman Michael Llodra, with a possible clash with top seed Andy Murray looming in the third round.
LLeyton Hewitt was due to play later on Monday, while Bernard Tomic opens his campaign on Tuesday.
