It’s a horror record for any tennis player but Marinko Matosevic isn’t shying away from it.
No wins from nine grand slam matches.
“Of course it’s an issue,” the world No.66 said as he prepared to begin his 10th grand slam campaign at Wimbledon on Monday.
“You guys (media) mention it. Lots of people mention it. I think about it, too. It’s there.
“It’s a record no one wants to have but I’ve got to deal with it. It is what it is.
“Hopefully I can do it here but if I don’t, I’m sure I’ll get plenty more opportunities.”
Matosevic says he’s failed to take his chances at key moments in matches but he’s also had some wretched luck with draws.
He’s drawn seeded players at his past three slams, including facing eventual finalist David Ferrer in the first round at the French Open last month.
But his luck has turned in drawing a highly-winnable first-round encounter at Wimbledon against French world No.89 Guillaume Rufin.
“It’s as good as you’re going to get basically, other than maybe qualifiers or a wildcard,” Matosevic said.
The 27-year-old comes into Wimbledon after reaching the third round at Queens a fortnight ago before losing to eventual champion Andy Murray.
He also played at Eastbourne last week, falling to Czech veteran Radek Stepanek in the first round.
“I feel comfortable on the grass. I played two extremely good players on grass in Murray and Stepanek [in the] last two matches so hopefully it holds me in good stead.”
