Matosevic misses first ATP Tour title

Australian qualifier Marinko Matosevic put up a good fight but fell just short of winning his maiden ATP Tour title on Sunday.

Matosevic was beaten 6-4 7-6 (7-2) by seventh seed Kevin Anderson of South Africa in the final of the Delray Beach International in Florida.

The 26-year-old from Melbourne can still take plenty of consolation from his great week.

He’s earned $US39,000 ($A36,000) in prizemoney and is set to jump from No.173 into the top 130 in the world rankings.

Before this week, Matosevic had not won a tour-level match this season and was just three-from-18 in his career.
