Lleyton Hewitt has advanced to the second round of the Miami Masters with a straight-sets victory over Joao Sousa of Portugal.
Making his first appearance at the event in four injury-plagued years, Hewitt won 6-1 7-6 (7-3) on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old Australian wildcard next plays 11th-seeded Frenchman Gilles Simon.
