Kyrgios beats German at Hopman Cup

Tennis star Nick Kyrgios overcame a slow start to power past German Alexander Zverev at the Hopman Cup on Sunday.

Kyrgios lost the first set before romping to a 4-6 6-1 6-4 win at Perth Arena.

The result gave Australia Green an unassailable 2-0 lead in the tie after Russian-born Daria Gavrilova beat Sabine Lisicki 6-2 6-2 earlier in the day.

Kyrgios was at his blistering best during the second set, powering a host of winners past Zverev.

And he snared the crucial break in the seventh game of the third set.

For the first time in the tournament’s 28-year history, Australia is being represented by two different teams.

Lleyton Hewitt and Jarmila Wolfe (nee Gajdosova) will start the Australia Gold’s Hopman Cup campaign against the Czech Republic on Sunday night.
