Kuznetsova wins Sydney International

Dual grand slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova has routed qualifier Monica Puig 6-0 6-2 to win her maiden Sydney International title on Friday night.

World No.25 Kuznetsova didn’t lose a game until the third game of the second set, at which the world No.94 Puerta Rican drew rapturous applause from the crowd.

Puig, 22, only managed to take one more game off the former Wimbledon and US Open winner, but avoided the same 6-0 6-0 embarrassment Dominika Cibulkova copped from Agnieszka Radwanska in 2013.

Kuznetsova needed just 55 minutes to claim her 16th career title and go one better than she did in 2008 when she lost the final of the event to Justine Henin in three sets.
