Second seed Simona Halep will face Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza in the final of the Cincinnati Open after both won their semi-finals easily in Ohio.

Romanian Halep crushed Sloane Stephens 6-2 6-1, while Muguruza beat top seed Karolina Pliskova 6-3 6-2.

Spaniard Muguruza proved much stronger on serve than the defending champion, advancing to Sunday’s final in less than 80 minutes.

“I was very precise with my shots,” Muguruza said.

“I wanted to be more aggressive and take my shots. I felt pretty good out there – under control. Everything went my way.”

She ended a run of six consecutive defeats against Czech Pliskova.
