Chinese qualifier Shuai Zhang has inflicted a shock first-round loss on No.2 seed Simona Halep at the Australian Open.
Zhang, 26, hadn’t progressed past the first round in 15 grand slam attempts, but stunned Halep 6-4 6-3 on Tuesday on Margaret Court Arena.
She will play Frenchwoman Alize Cornet in the second round.
