Daria Gavrilova’s fairytale run at the Australian Open has ended with a fourth-round loss to big-serving fifth seed Karolina Pliskova.
The 22-year-old Melburnian couldn’t handle the firepower of the Czech, who posted a 6-3 6-3 victory to set up a quarter-final clash with Croatian Mirjana Lucic-Baroni.
The result matches Gavrilova’s 2016 performance and means she will bank $220,00 in prizemoney.
