French Open day seven snapshot

PLAYER OF THE DAY: It could be anyone after a string of impressive performances but the honour has to go to the man on top of the tennis world.

Andy Murray had what appeared to be a difficult third round encounter with Juan Martin del Potro but the Scotsman delivered on the big stage. First he took everything del Potro had, to stave off the Argentine in the opening two sets, then played a flawless third to take the match 7-6 (10-8) 7-5 6-0. The final set was all angles and winners – Murray at his best.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “I think that the relationship is not very good. I think she may have a grudge against us, so she’s not ready to talk with me.” – Alize Cornet discusses her fractured relationship with fellow Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia ahead of their fourth round clash – they had a falling out over some Twitter action surrounding Fed Cup.

STAT OF THE DAY: South Africa’s Kevin Anderson moved to the top of the service charts with victory over Britain’s Kyle Edmund. Anderson served 24 aces during the third-round clash to take his total at the tournament to 58.

UPSET ALERT: Cornet sent ninth seed Agnieszka Radwanska packing with a 6-2 6-1 spanking – the win just her second over the Pole in nine meetings and the first since 2006.

HOW THE AUSSIES FARED: Nick Kyrgios and Jordan Thompson were bounced in the third round of the men’s doubles – Ash Barty and Casey Dellacqua won their round two women’s doubles match.

HOW THE SEEDS FARED: Only Cuevas fell on the men’s side. Marin Cilic, Stan Wawrinka and world No.1 Andy Murray all made it through. In the women’s draw Simona Halep, Caroline Wozniacki, Garcia and Carla Suarez Navarro all marched on.
