Casey Dellacqua has credited a tip from Roger Federer for her win in the $US50,000 ITF event in Fukuoka, Japan.
In an important victory in the lead-up to French Open beginning next week, Dellacqua beat fellow Australian Monique Adamczak 6-4 6-1 in the final on Sunday.
After the win Dellacqua tweeted about a racquet tip she heard from the World No.2.
“Heard Federer puts gut in the mains (and) poly in the crosses when he plays on grass. I played on syn grass this week in Japan and so I copied him … and I won the tournament.”
Ranked No.96 in the world, Dellacqua has direct entry into Roland Garros where she has produced some of her best grand slam results, including a third round singles loss in 2008.
In Bangkok, Thailand, South Australia’s Luke Saville claimed his first Futures title on the ITF Pro Circuit.
World No.742 Saville fought back from a set down to win the tournament final over Frenchman Antoine Escoffier 2-6 6-4 6-0 on Saturday.
