Famous faces flock to Wimbledon

Nobody draws a crowd like a home favourite.

Royalty, sporting superstars, a world leader and a popstar all made their way to Wimbledon for the much-anticipated men’s final between Roger Federer and Andy Murray.

With tickets for the clash going for tens of thousands of pounds on the streets of London, a number of famous faces found space in their diaries to take up a seat in the royal box.

The Duchess of Cambridge was present at centre court for Murray’s bid to end Britain’s 76-year wait for a men’s champion at SW19.

And it would not be a major event without her far-from-publicity-shy little sister Pippa Middleton.

Wimbledon has always been a massive drawcard for the rich and powerful but the interest levels for Sunday’s final have made the elbows that little bit sharper this time around.

David Beckham and wife Victoria plus British Prime Minister David Cameron, taking a break from leading the country to watch the match.

Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond is nearby and let’s hope independence does not come up in conversation.

Salmond wants to cut Scotland’s ties with the United Kingdom in 2014 and the English press will be hoping Murray succeeds at grand slam level before such an outcome.

Australia is well represented by tennis greats such as Rod Laver, Roy Emerson, Frank Sedgman and Neale Fraser.

A record television audience is expected in the UK for the match between the Scot and the Swiss maestro who is chasing his seventh Wimbledon and 17th grand slam title.
