Dellacqua through, Jarka out in Nottingham

Casey Dellacqua has bounced back from a first-round loss at the French Open to open her grass court season with a confidence-boosting win at the Nottingham Open.

She fared better than countrywoman Jarmila Gajdosova, who was no match for Christina McHale of the United States, going down 6-4 6-3 on Tuesday.

Dellacqua, who was crushed 6-2 6-2 in 62 minutes in Paris by compatriot Ajla Tomljanovic, looked more at home on her preferred surface to defeat Bulgarian Sesil Karatantcheva 7-5 6-3.

The 30-year-old will next face Croatian Ana Konjuh for a quarter-final spot.

Dellacqua, seeded sixth in Nottingham, last week reached the French Open doubles final after partnering up with Yaroslava Shvedova, before going down 3-6 6-4 6-2 to Lucie Safarova and Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

Other Tuesday winners included second seed Zarina Diyas and third seed Varvara Lepchenko.
