Dellacqua reaches Texas tennis semis

Australian qualifier Casey Dellacqua on Thursday continued her winning march at the Texas Open tennis tournament, advancing to the semi-finals with a straight-sets win over Aleksandra Wozniak.

Dellacqua beat the Canadian 6-4 6-4 to set up a semi-final showdown with second-seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia.

Jankovic downed Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6-2 6-1 in just over an hour.

Dellacqua won 68 per cent of her first-serve points and hit two aces in her 67-minute match.

Jankovic dominated Cirstea by winning 79 per cent of her first-serve points.

The eighth-seeded Cirstea committed seven double-faults and won just 19 per cent of her second-serve points in the match played on the main stadium courts.

Third seed Roberta Vinci of Italy defeated South African No.7 seed Chanelle Scheepers 7-6 (7-1) 6-2.

Vinci next faces Serbian Bojana Jovanovski who was leading 6-4 1-0 when China’s Peng Shuai retired from their match early in the second set.
