Dellacqua reaches Texas tennis quarters

Australian Casey Dellacqua continued her strong form ahead of the US Open with an upset second-round win over Yanina Wickmayer on Tuesday at the Texas Open tennis tournament.

The qualifier beat the Belgian fourth seed 6-4 6-3, setting up a quarter-final against Canada’s Aleksandra Wozniak who later downed countrywoman Eugenie Bouchard 6-2 6-2.

The hardcourt tournament serves as a warm-up event for the US Open starting next week in New York.

In other second-round matches, No.3 seed Roberta Vinci of Italy beat Slovenia’s Polona Hercog 6-2 6-3, sixth seed Peng Shuai of China defeated Pauline Parmentier of France 6-4 6-2, and Serbia’s Bojana Jovanoski downed Mirjana Lucico of Croatia 7-6 (7-5) 6-2.

Dellacqua’s quarter-final showdown with Wozniak is scheduled for Wednesday.
