Del Potro powers into Sydney final

Argentine top seed Juan Martin del Potro has booked a place in Saturday night’s Sydney International final with a straight-sets victory over Russian fourth seed Dmitry Tursunov.

The world No.5 thumped Tursunov 6-4 6-2 and will take on the winner of Friday’s second semi-final between local hope and defending champion Bernard Tomic and Sergiy Stakhovsky, a qualifier from Ukraine.

Tursunov won the Sydney title in 2008, but Del Potro broke him three times to power past the world No.32 in just 64 minutes.

The former US Open champion sent down nine aces in nine service games en route to the 25th final of his career.

Del Potro launches his Australian Open campaign against a qualifier next week and will head to Melbourne Park with plenty of confidence with four matches under his belt in Sydney.
