De Minaur through to Antalya ATP final

Alex de Minaur has claimed the scalp of world No.16 David Goffin to reach the final of the Antalya Open.

The Australian has begun the ATP Tour season in strong form, with the 6-4 3-6 6-2 win over the second-seeded Belgian his most impressive victory thus far.

It was the first set dropped in the tournament for de Minaur, such has been his dominance.

His victory over Goffin, in little less than two hours, is the perfect tonic ahead of next month’s Australian Open. He missed last year’s grand slam in Melbourne with an abdominal tear.

World No.21, de Minaur enjoyed a breakout year in 2019, winning three titles.

Goffin, the second seed, had cruised past Italy’s Stefano Travaglia 6-3 6-2 in the quarter-final.

De Minaur will meet either Alexander Bublik or Jeremy Chardy in the final.

Kazakhstan’s Bublik, 23, secured one of the biggest victories of his career in straight sets, winning 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 in one hour and 31 minutes over world No.10 Matteo Berrettini.

Chardy defeated German fifth seed Jan-Lennard Struff 4-6 6-2 7-6 (8-6) to advance.

Frenchman Chardy saved two match points in the deciding tiebreaker of the match that lasted more than two-and-a-half hours.
