De Minaur fights back to beat Gasquet

With a first-round defeat staring him in the face, Alex de Minaur has clawed his way back to post a memorable comeback win over Richard Gasquet at the European Open in Antwerp.

Veteran Frenchman Gasquet, 34, took the opening set and was serving for the match at 5-4 in the second before the Australian world No.29 rallied to level after sealing the tie-break.

De Minaur continued his momentum to eventually progress 3-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 after two hours and 20 minutes.

Earlier, British No.1 Dan Evans ended a five-match losing streak with a battling 6-2 3-6 6-3 victory over Italian qualifier Salvatore Caruso, while compatriot Cameron Norrie also progressed after he beat Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland 6-3 7-6 (7-4).

There were also first-round wins for American Marcos Giron and Spain’s Pablo Andujar, while South African qualifier Lloyd Harris beat Corentin Moutet, the world No.74, 7-5 6-2.

Tuesday’s late match saw 21-year-old Belgian wild card Zizou Bergs mark his ATP main draw debut with a 7-5 7-5 win over world No.45 Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas.
