Clijsters, Roddick hall of fame nominees

Kim Clijsters and Andy Roddick are the International Tennis Hall of Fame nominees in the recent player category for the class of 2017.

The hall announced on Thursday who is on the ballot.

Clijsters, one of six women to be ranked No.1 in singles and doubles, won four Grand Slam singles titles – three at the US Open, one at the Australian Open – and two major trophies in doubles.

When she came out of retirement and won the 2009 US Open in her third tournament back, she was the first mother to collect a major title since 1980.

Roddick’s 2003 US Open championship was the last Grand Slam singles title for an American man.

He finished that season at No.1 in the ATP rankings.

Other nominees are wheelchair player Monique Kalkman, a Paralympic gold medallist; journalist and historian Steve Flink; and the late instructor Vic Braden.
