Melbourne’s John Peers and Finnish teammate Henri Kontinen stand in the way of a historic 17th grand slam doubles title for American pair Bob and Mike Bryan.

No.4 seeds Peers and Kontinen ended the impressive Australian Open run of local wildcards Marc Polmans and Andrew Whittington on Thursday with a 6-4 6-4 semi-final win.

The Bryan brothers booked their final berth in the first match of the day on Rod Laver Arena, accounting for Spanish pair Pablo Carreno Busta and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 7-6 (7-1) 6-3.
